need to replace your windows

Why do I need to replace my Old Windows?

There are several signals that your windows may be deteriorating, but some may not be as obvious as you think. Listed below are telltale signs and simple tests to help you determine if your windows need to be replaced.

Casement Windows

Casement windows were once the most common form of domestic window casement windowsbefore the introduction of the sash. They are designed contemporary in style, allowing more light to enter the window, while also providing a larger view. It is a window unit in which the single sash levers outward, to the right or left. Casement windows are still frequently installed in new homes and are common in the Western United States.

Casement windows give you unobstructed views top-to-bottom and side-to-side. Casement replacement windows are our most energy-efficient, ventilating window style. They open fully - catching breezes and directing the flow of fresh air into your home. To enjoy a breeze, simply crank your casement windows outward and direct the fresh air in.

If you're installing windows over a sink, countertop or appliance, you don't want to lean forward and lift. Casement windows crank open, which makes them ideal for these locations.

Casement, hopper and awning windows are three variations of the same frame design, based on hinges.

Casement windows have a hinge at the side; awning windows have their hinges located at the top, while hopper windows are an inverted version of the awning windows: they have their hinges located at the bottom.

These models are also based on compression seals (crank outs) and provide higher airtight and energy-efficiency than that provided by gliding and double-hung windows.

Casement windows advantages

Casement window btmCasement windows have a hinge at the side and crank out to open. They are one of the most common and time-tested designs, and they allow several customizations. They are particularly energy-efficient - the most efficient window (after fixed-pane windows...). Besides, they allow excellent ventilation possibilities.

Due to the window sash pressing against the frame on closing, they are particularly high-performing in terms of air-leakage. So if the size of window opening is important to you, you may want to consider casements.

Casement windows are very difficult to break into. Casement locks are hook-shaped, and these hooks are embedded within the frame, making them untouchable. Contrast this with double-hung windows, which are easy to break into by slipping a slim pry bar under the sash and lifting. The sash lock's screws pull right out of the wood.

Disadvantages of casement windows

If you intend to use storm windows, or screens, casement windows aren’t a good option. They are also relatively obstructive (comparatively to fixed pane or glidinwindows) in some locations, and can be more difficulty to clean on the outside.

Due to its design, there are also some limitations in terms of the size of individual casement windows. They can't be too large.

Casement Windows Are More Exposed to the Elements. Because casements open outward, the edges are exposed to sun, rain, snow, and more. The top edge particularly is exposed and gets weatherbeaten fast. Again, it's easy to rush to judgment and promise that you will religiously close your casement windows prior to the rain, think again.

Screens on the Inside. Because casement windows' sashes open outward, screens must be on the inside. Do you have kids? Do you have dogs or cats who like to stand on hind legs and look out windows? If so, you can already see the problem here
